One of my favorite things to have for dinner is buffalo chicken wraps! However, I was using fake, processed, chickn! I've been trying to find an alternative to this processed chik'n (which is delicious, but very expensive, and not the best thing for you!) I tried tofu, but it didn't have the texture I liked... Then came tempeh.

I'm new to tempeh, but one thing I found is that it works wonders if you soak it in sauce

"...tempeh is a soy-based product. It’s made by fermenting cooked soybeans and then forming the mixture into a firm, dense cake...It has a strong, nutty taste, but it also absorbs other flavors easily."

What You're Going to Need

  • tempeh

  • 1/4 cup buffalo wing hot sauce (make sure its vegan!)

  • 1/8 cup four

  • 1 T nutritional yeast

  • 1 t red pepper flakes

  • 1 T garlic powder

  • Pepper

  • avocado oil

  • spoonful Veganese (optional)

  • vegan bleu cheese (optional)

  • celery (optional)

Lets Get Down to Business

  • preheat over to 375 F

  • cut the tempeh into 5, 1/2 inch thick slices

  • pour hot sauce in a ziplock bag

  • place tempeh into hot sauce bag and seal shut for 20 minutes!

  • while its soaking, make the breading

  • in a bowl, combine flour, red pepper flakes, garlic salt, pepper, and nutritional yeast. i put these ingredients in a hand blender to make sure the red pepper flakes were a little smaller- but that is optional!

  • after 20 minutes is up, take the tempeh and roll it in the flour mixture! Place on cooking sheet with parchment paper

  • cook for 10-12 minutes

  • get a small pan and put 1-2T Avocado Oil (or another high smoke point oil)

  • heat up, and place tempeh in oil, flip. this creates a crunchier effect!

    • you can skip the frying if you would like to make for a healthier version (although, avocado oil DOES have a lot of vitamin E.... :) )

  • with the hot sauce left in the bag, add the Veganese and pour on top for sauce!

  • dip in vegan bleu cheese or eat plain!!!!
