Homemade Seitan!

High in protein, low in fat/carb, my go to meat replacement! (not for those who are gluten sensitive/celiac!!!!)

Dough ball
Pre-cooked Seitan Dough
  • 1.5 cup vegetable broth

  • 1.5 cup vital wheat gluten

  • 1 cup nutritional yeast

  • any spices you want!!! I usually do a teaspoon of: smoked paprika, garlic, onion, and cumin! I also add a dash of mixed herbs.

  • 1 t - 1 T sea salt

  1. mix together dry ingredients

  2. add in liquid (and a dash of olive oil if you want!)

  3. stir

  4. knead for 2 minutes, you'll see the gluten start to develop! This is pivotal for the seitan

  5. let rest for 5-10 minutes then do a quick knead before shaping it into a ball (see above photo)

  6. cut into 4 pieces and wrap in tin foil

  7. steam for 15 minutes, flip the pieces around, steam for another 15 minutes

  8. unwrap and let cool!

Makes 8 servings!
